Sustainability + Craft
At uncommon matters we care about presenting our vision to the world as sustainably as we can and we see craft(wo-)manship as a philosophy towards a better future. Because of this, every piece is handcrafted to order, so we never produce more than we need. um is not about trends, but unique and timeless design and quality – pieces that are meant to last and evolve with us through the seasons and through the years.
We use recycled metal and wood (even our boxes), and similarly recycle any damaged pieces that we are unable to repair. All gold plating is done with recycled gold, and our primary base metal is recycled sterling silver.
We work primarily with small artisanal businesses - porcelain makers, trumpet makers, stone cutters and wood artisans around the world. We also work with women and family workshops that empower women and provide them with education and a good salary (when we produce in Asia).
